Pastel Painting, beginning and intermediate

REGISTRATION IS CLOSED FOR THIS WORKSHOP 1/26/24 Becky Chappell, Instructor Wednesdays, Feb 21st, Feb 28th, and Mar 6th Noon - 2 pm

Goals of class: for beginners, the basics of painting with pastels and becoming familiar with techniques, papers, underpaintings and the possibilities of the medium.

Feb 21st Class:  Learn about the materials: types of pastels, different papers and the benefits of each.  Students will have small pieces of 5 different papers to "play" with the hard & soft pastels they've chosen, discovering the differences of each.

Learn about the benefits of "underpaintings" and the process of beginning a painting and layering:  what to focus on and what to avoid.

Feb 28th Class: begin talking about painting from photos, what to avoid and what to focus on.  The instructor, while demonstrating, will talk everyone through their process of painting with pastels using "simple" landscape photos.

March 6th Class:  Participants will finish their paintings

Supplies are included.  Participants should wear clothing suitable for painting; pastels can be messy!

Class is limited to 8 students.  Pre-registration is required.
